Cassina unveils Tamburound, the debut project by British designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. This small armchair offers a new vision of the dining chair and challenges the traditional formality of this piece of furniture.
In the inviting and compact profiles of Tamburound, a recurring theme in the designers' work finds its place: movement. The backrest and the seat rotate independently from one another thanks to an ingenious swivel system developed by Cassina, encouraging more dynamic interaction between dinner guests. The mechanism, hidden under the seat, is connected to a sinuous bracket that, in turn holds the backrest
Like satellites revolving around a planet, the seat and backrest draw two harmonic orbits, carefully calibrated to ensure a smooth and controlled use, allowing both elements to rotate 360°. This feature allows the small armchair to be used in a versatile, dynamic and original way, whether for formal dining or more convivial scenarios such as home working.
Soft and inviting volumes
The rounded shapes of all the components of Tamburound are designed to create optimal comfort: the dynamic spirit of the small armchair is emphasised by its meticulously crafted aesthetics and the backrest connected to the seat surrounds and gives further support to the guest.
Tamburound is available in a wide selection of removable fabric and leather upholstery which combines with the cast aluminium bracket painted in natural aluminium, matt anthracite or semi-opaque China Red and Powder.
A conscious vision
Tamburound has been developed with a conscious eye towards sustainability. Confirming Cassina's ongoing commitment to identifying alternative solutions, circular materials such as polyurethane with a percentage of polyols derived from biological origin, used in the foamed parts, as well as recycled PET wadding in the upholstery, have been implemented.
Movement is an important theme in our work, across all scales from lamps through to large-scale sculpture.. The independent rotation of the seat and backrest of Tamburound, creates a new archetype for dining seats. It is intended to be joyful and engaging
