With the launch of the Lounge chair in 1956, Charles and Ray Eames set new standards: it was not only lighter, more elegant and more modern than the bulky traditional Club chair, but also much more comfortable. These qualities have made the Lounge chair one of the best-known classics in the history of modern furniture.
As a special edition for the winter season 2023/24, Vitra presents the Lounge Chair with a Phlox fabric upholstery in the color dark green. Phlox is a corduroy fabric which, combined with a rosewood shell, emphasizes the iconic look of the armchair, while the pine green metal parts – base and backrest supports – form a contemporary contrasting element.
Phlox is a pleasantly soft corduroy fabric, created by designer Raf Simons for the Danish fabric manufacturer Kvadrat. Removable velvet covers develop a distinctive patina with use.
- Seat and backrest shells: shaped plywood, Santos Rosewood veneer covering (Bolivia, certified sustainability).
- Padding/covering: removable cushions, removable covers in dark green Kvadrat Phlox 01 fabric (983).
- Seat height: 380 mm (250 mm with applied load, measured in accordance with EN 1335-1:2000).
- Armrests: padded, removable fabric covers. Fixed to the seat and backrest shell with shock-absorbing joints (rubber and metal fittings).
- Base: five-star swivel base or four-star non-swivel base (Ottoman). Supports for both the base and the backrest in die-cast aluminium. Powder coated (smooth) pine green.
- Glides: All legs on glides with felt inserts for hard floors.
